The Invisible Children benefit will take place at The Troubadour, which is located at 9081 Santa Monica Blvd. in West Hollywood, CA and the event will kick off at 7PM. Besides the four acoustic performances from the above mentioned front men, auctions will also begin on items such as a massive Thrice banner used on the band's tours, Thrice drummer Riley Breckenridge's drum kit, guitars that have been hand painted by members of Circa Survive, and even pieces of equipment from stadium-punkers Fall Out Boy.
Proceeds from these auctions will also go to Invisible Children, a group that strives to aid the people of ravaged northern Uganda through educations and employment. The show is sponsored by MySpace, Jedidiah Clothing and SocialVibe and more information on tickets can be found here.
About Invisible Children
Non-Profit organization Invisible Children was started in 2005 after a documentary entitled "Invisible Children: Rough Cut" showed northern Ugandan children who were abducted and forced to serve as soldiers. For the past three years Invisible Children has used their assets to send hundreds of Ugandan children to school and provide jobs to men and women in Uganda. Dustin Kensrue of hard rock band Thrice, Jon Foreman of Christian rockers Switchfoot, Chris Conley of emo gone pop Saves the Day, and Jim Ward of the aggressive Sparta and the seminal At The Drive-In
have always been socially conscious rockers willing to play benefits.
What's even more interesting however is that despite the fact that each of the four bands these guys these guys call home are known (at least partially) for loud rock tones and jarring live shows, the four front men are no strangers to the more subdued solo acoustic game.
Dustin Kensrue and Jim Ward (who records his solo material under the name of Sleepercar) have both released solo acoustic albums in the past two years, while Chris Conley has released an acoustic EP and performed several acoustic benefit shows with his band Saves the Day.
Dustin Kensrue to Perform Songs From Christmas Album Live
Thrice front man Dustin Kensrue has also recently released a Christmas album on Vargrant Records entitled The Good Night is Still Everywhere, which includes traditional Christmas tunes like "Hark! the Herald Angels Sing," "O Come, O Come, Emmanuel," and even the Elvis classic "Blue Christmas." At the Invisible Children benefit show Kensrue plans on performing songs from this new Christmas record, as well other solo compositions taken from his debut solo album Please Come Home.
